Title: Extracting Geographic Information from Text: Blind alleys and missing questions

Abstract : In my talk I will argue that Geographic Information Extraction can make important contributions to a wide range of societally important questions. I’ll give some examples of what sorts of questions I think these might be, and propose that addressing them effectively means spending more time on thinking about questions and working in an interdisciplinary context, and less optimising algorithms for specific case studies.
